A Kompensator is a patented specialty fifth wheel designed for use with torsionally rigid trailers such as tankers, drybulk, bottom dumps, grain, and B trains.  This fifth wheel is designed to provide both front-to-rear and side-to-side oscillation between the tractor and semi-trailer.  The Kompensator fifth wheel relieves the twisting force between the tractor and trailer.  Holland has both stationary and sliding Kompensator Fifth Wheels available with a choice of Fleetmaster Series, 3500 Series, or FW70 Series top plates.  It is intended for applications where the center of gravity of the loaded semi-trailer does not exceed 44" above the top surface of the fifth wheel.

PROBLEM:

When torsionally rigid trailers encounter uneven terrain, tight turns, curbs, etc., they do not flex to relieve the twisting force experienced between tractor and trailer. This places great strain on tractor and trailer frames, tank and tires. The results are frame cracks, leaky tanks and premature drive tire wear.

SOLUTION:

STATIONARY KOMPENSATORS

Stationary Kompensators are available in multiple mounting styles, including: an over-the-frame mount base with full mounting plate, an over-the-frame mount base for angle mounting, and an outboard angle mount base for outboard angle mounting.

SLIDING KOMPENSATORS

Sliding Kompensators are available with an air slide release as shown here, or with a manual slide release base.

OPTIONAL KOMPENSATOR LOCKOUT DEVICE

Both the stationary and sliding Kompensators can be equipped with an optional lockout device when side-to-side compensation is not desired.
